Ben Ames Williams, a native of North Carolina, was born in Asheville, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. While attending college, he joined the United States Air Force and served for twelve years as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After leaving the military, Mr
Williams pursued his career as a teacher and later became a high school English teacher at East Mecklenburg High School before retiring from teaching in 1997. In retirement, Mr. Williams has been working on his first novel, The Golden Shore, which is scheduled to be published next year by Interlude Press.
